How to change my internet speed?

I am using a Dell Inspiron 6400. It has a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller to connect through internet. Previously, I was connected at 100mbs to internet (I use Bell Sympatico High Speed Internet) and was able to download at 450k from rapidshare.com. Then, my life got complicated when my girl friend decided to take my laptop to a business trip. There, at the hotel she stayed, she tried to connect to internet ans was not able to do so and asked help from somebody, whom connects the laptop to hotel's internet. Now she brings back my laptop, and guess what!!: It connects at 10mps!!! I am only able to download at 150k from rapidshare. I don't know how to increase my internet speed. Can anybody please help me? Note that I have a Local Area Connection icon appeared in my system tray, which was not there previously!!! I HATE GIRLS!!!! They ruin guys' life!!!!

The only thing I agree with you about is that girls ruins our lives he he he. Other than that let me explain something. you were never connected to the internet at 100M speed, this speed is for the connection between your laptop and the switch or the router you are connected to. the Internet speed is decided by the Internet service provider you are subscribing to. think of it that you have an inside speed (LAN) and an outside speed (WAN). The LAN speed you can somehow control by setting the speed of th NIC card however you are limited for the max speed the NIC card you have supports.

Here is a link to get your LAN speed to 100 again:

One other thing, don't give electronics to girls pleaaase lol

Hope this helps..

You never were connected to the internet at 100 mbs. That is simply the data transfer speed between your computer and your router.
