I own a small internet web maternity clothing shop. www.hautemamacouture.com I get almost no business to it at all. I tried paying for advertising with search engines but I had too small a budget (spent $100 on 4 different engines/month). I also have the same items in a store on eBay. That's where I make 99% of my money. However, with their recent announcements of fee increases, they should just change their name to FeeBay and their changes to the feedback policy that will not allow a seller to leave negative when warranted, I can no longer afford to do business on there. I spend about $500-$1,000 in eBay fees a month but I make about $4,000 a month. How can I shift some of this around to promote my website. I am on a very limited budget and have no idea how to get people to go to this website and buy. Thanks!
Internet Marketing Ideas?
Hi April,
I've done a quick check on your incoming links, there were none. To have a great SEO score link building must be top priority for you. Rather have less quality incoming links than many lower ranked links.
Although not true SEO, a blog is highly recommended to achieve high traffic. A blog is great to build a brand, it may not result in instant sales but it sure will indirectly. Once you've begun a blog you can then submit it to several social bookmarking websites that will increase your traffic even further.
I've compared your site to your competitors and their websites have good keyword density, meta tags (not to important), incoming links. Your goal should be to match these sites and you'll soon be receiving targeted traffic.
If done properly SEO can be managed with a small budget.

MKTG Marketing: www.mktg.com.au
I looked at your website and here are my comments:
1. Change your metatag title to %26quot;Haute Mama Couture: Trendy Maternity Wear %26amp; Apparel%26quot; . You need to have the most important keywords on the title -- %26quot;maternity wear%26quot; and %26quot;maternity apparel%26quot;
2. Put an intro paragraph in your homepage. Having an intro paragraph placed above the fold will let people know what your site is all about -- and gives search engines more text to chew on
3. Lose the gigantic picture graphic on your page. Cartoons does nothing to your sales. You need to showcase your products
Look at the Pea in a Pod website http://www.apeainthepod.com -- up front is a gorgeous pregnant woman wearing one of the items for sale. If you can't get a model to put in your page, at least show the clothes immediately. Right now I have to scroll down to see your product offerings
4. Your Promotional Discounts should be right there up front and center. Look at Pea in a Pod -- their $6 shipping is at the very top of the homepage. LL Bean has their promotional discount at the bottom of the homepage -- but it is still in the homepage http://www.llbean.com/
There's two things you need to do:
- get the TARGETED traffic or pregnant women to come visit your site
- make sure that you CONVERT the visitors and turn them into buyers

This website is great for web advertising. It's a free targeted advertising (based on you selecting various categories you would like to be included in) and link exchange network. You put other websites text ads on your page and yours appears on others. And it really is 100% free, forever. While it's not something that guarantees traffic it also doesn't cost anything, so why not try it?
Good luck!
I have a friend who just started a new advertising site.
It offers free advertising for those who want to promote something on the internet.
All you have to do to promote there is to offer something for free, even free advice if you don't have any other free samples.
It is at; http://something4nothing.tripod.com and I will tell him to watch for you, as you have a decent, quality site, very much the kind he wants to add.
Hello April,
I think you should decide your monthly budget you intend to invest in SEO and Internet marketing every month, considering your current financial situation. You should also look at the whole situation as an investment in a new way of service/selling - direct by you, not indirect by eBay. There is no doubt, that your past approach to Internet marketing was not the right one and you should change it fundamentally. It is like to buy a new tool/knowledge for your work. The fact is, that you want to become an independent shop/seller and get rid of eBay.
This 'department' and its skills are far too vast to be described properly, here. You are not an expert in this field and don't bother about that fact, too much.
One needs to be pragmatic, when it comes to solving your problem.
Visit www.elance.com and surf a bit around the site to get more feeling about different services they have on offer, there.
Describe your project/problem and exactly what do you want to achieve. Set a fixed monthly budget on a long term basis (at least 3months, better more) and place a project, there, which is free of charge.
Wait a few days and you are going to get many different offers with exact explanations of what and how to do by many professionals. In your judgment/selecting process you could advise more people, similar as your current Yahoo question, also on-line and free of charge.
As a beginner in the field of Internet marketing (IM), there is nothing better to obtain basic knowledge and understanding of this profession, than Thirty Day Challenge of Ed Dale and Dan Raine, which is happening every August and is free of charge. But, you don't need to wait till August, because everything is so well recorded, condensed and neatly presented on www.thirtydaychallenge.com Just register there and start to explore. Every day you'll know more and more.
Good luck,
adam
P.S.
There is also a real pearl about eBay selling in 30DC, too, absolutely free of charge.
