Are Internet TABS really WINDOWS?

Thanks everyone for explaining what internet TABS are. They are places where web pages are displayed.

But isn't that a 'window'.

Why does Bill Gates want to call a window a tab now.

Is he going to change his business name from WINDOWS to TABS next?

I struggle a lot wth computer terminology without this kind of confusion. Thanks Bill.

Tabs are a concept that was desinged originally by Mozilla Firefox (an internet browser, different from Internet Explorer). The main idea is that it is one program with multiple windows inside. This is replacing the old method of keeping all of the Internet programs on the task bar, listing them as seperate programs (the bar next to the start menu icon).

Basically, it is a replacement of opening a new Internet Explorer to go to a new address.

No a tab is basically a window in a window.
It's kind of like a new window, only it is in the same window, and you just click a little tab. Here is an example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en鈥?/a>

P.S. Microsoft riped tabbed browsing from Mozilla Firefox. They did not invent it!
Tabs are basically neater versions of windows. They allow multiple windows to be displayed in one window, with buttons at the top that link to each page.

Hope this helps,

Zach
no.... tabs, are in a window, if you have 20 tabs in one window (not the operation system Windows, just boxes that represents a running program) and then you close that window, the 20 tabs are basically gone. like for example, mozilla firefox, or its clone, internet explorer 7
a tab is like a window inside a window
