I am 50and been in the printing industry for 25 yrs. I had a passion for it. But Times have changed print fell to internet and I lost my Love and trade. I worked for large company and owned my own small company. Now the past two years I am doing Handyman ( work well with my Hands) However I am very Depressed and Board with this Bus. I need to find a new business (no internet bus please!) I feel so bad now working Hard andjust getting by and I am heart sick and sinking. How Can I Help my self. Have you thought about getting a cdl and driving a semi- truck for awhile? The pay is good and you can get benefits as a company driver. You can see parts of the country you haven't seen also. My husband does this. He loves his work and makes a good living being an owner/operator.
I'm your age, and I'm working to change career fields myself, so I feel your pain.
In my experience, the first thing is to find out what is important to you. In other words, you have to learn something about yourself. You can do that work by yourself through introspection, or you can ask the people who know you best for help. Until you do that, everthing else is just guesswork and guesswork can be very expensive. But once you know the sort of work that creates satisfaction for you, a plan will naturally emerge to get you from here to there.
For example, is working with your hands something that you enjoy? If so, and you still have a passion for print, there is a small, but lucrative market for handmade books.
Do you want to do something totally different? What interests you? What are your passions? What is important in your life?
If you focus on the amount of income, rather than discovering what lights you up, you'll never be happy. Success is not money. Success is respecting yourself for making the hard decisions and doing the right things for yourself and others.
We can all work to reduce our unnecessary expenses. In fact, I think the more of those we eliminate, the better we understand ourselves and the better the understanding we have of ourselves as people, the more likely we are to be spending our days doing something that empowers us to feel good about ourselves.
By the way, your experiences of working hard and just getting by are what a large minority of Americans go through every day. Count your blessings that you (may) have other alternatives. A lot of people don't.
